Course structure and outline

- Hey, everyone, John Pauler here. Welcome to Advanced SQL for Analytics & Business Intelligence. If you're looking to develop practical, real-world analytics and BI skills using MySQL, then you've come to the right place. Now, this course is unlike anything you've ever seen, guaranteed. Instead of using random samples of data and disconnected demos, we'll be working with a rich, custom-built e-commerce database that was designed from scratch so that we could give you real-life practical applications and learn how to really think like an analyst. You'll be playing the role of a newly hired database analyst for Maven Fuzzy Factory, a newly-launched e-commerce startup. Throughout the course, you'll be working directly with the company's CEO, Head of Marketing, and Website Manager to help grow the business and analyze performance along the way. We'll start by introducing the course project, installing the tools you'll need to access the database and reviewing the core SQL skills that you should be comfortable with before starting this course, including select statements, aggregate functions, and table joints. We'll work through a number of powerful analytics deep dives, including traffic analysis and optimization, website measurement and testing, channel mix, product level performance, user behavior analysis, and much more. This course is all about rolling up your sleeves and actually applying your skills in a real-world context. For each topic, we'll introduce the business concept, review the SQL tools that we'll be applying, and then we'll jump straight into hands-on exercises and course projects. You'll complete many of the same types of projects that you would as a professional database analyst, and you'll get to see the impact that your work has optimizing and improving the business's performance. So what do you say, ready to dive in? We've got a lot to cover. Let's get started.
