Commit to learning about the experiences of others

- When I moved to New York for graduate school, the university I attended had a large Jewish student population, some of which were Orthodox. I didn't know a lot about their beliefs. We would get certain holidays off from school that I wasn't used to getting before. One day, I came across a show called "Unorthodox." The show is based on a book written by an Orthodox Jewish woman. It was a great way to learn more about a community that I recognized I knew very little about. I love the saying that you never know a person until you walk a mile in their moccasins. And while it's impossible to understand 100% what a person is experiencing, we should be making ongoing efforts to learn about groups outside of our own. This prevents us from engaging in harmful behavior that impacts others. No one wants to listen to or be around someone who is ignorant and uninformed.
