What you’ll learn
- [Instructor] In this course, you're going to be learning about IP addressing, and we've got two types of IP addresses. We have IPv4 addresses and IPv6 addresses. Now I've got bad news about IPv4 addresses, and that is we're out, meaning that you cannot go to your country's numbering authority and say, "Hey, I would like to get a block of IPv4 addresses for my company." They're simply not available. However, most every network that you work on today is going to to use IPv4 addressing, but we're starting to see more and more IPv6 addressing, and we will not run out of IPv6 addresses as we'll see in this course. And in this course, we'll cover the theory of IP addressing, but also, for network design purposes, you need to know how to do some of the math behind IP addressing. Specifically, you need to know how to do subnetting. And to help with that, I've created some practice exercises for you. To access a PDF containing those exercises in the overview tab of your course under the related to this course area, you can go into exercise files by saying show all. And from there, you can download a PDF, and this PDF has several subnetting practice questions. And after doing the calculations on your own, you can check your answer with very detailed descriptions of how to go through each calculation. Now, if you're ready, I'm ready. So join me in the next video, and let's get started.
