Using complex charts and graphs
- [Instructor] Unlike simple charts and graphs that show about two dimensions of data, complex charts and graphs are, well, complex because they show three or more dimensions of data. For example, a bubble chart shows at least three levels of data. There's the data presented by the x-axis, the y-axis data, and the size of the bubble as a third point of data. In this example, you see that the x-axis shows age. The y-axis shows income, and the bubble size shows hours worked. Bubble charts can also introduce a fourth dimension of data with color by using color to delineate different categories or topics being visualized. Now, bubble charts are rarely used in commercial applications because they can be very hard for audiences to take in. I mentioned earlier that we don't do a good job of recognizing different sizes of circles or the area of a circle, so this third dimension of data can actually be hard for most audiences to equally comprehend.
