- [Instructor] Have you ever considered using space to add emphasis to your designs? The sixth element of design is space, or what designers sometimes refer to as white space. All designs, digital, print, web, and otherwise deal with space, whether you're aware of it or not! When we speak formally about space, what we're referring to is the actual unfilled or empty space like these three nested regions inside the central container shown here. The positive and negative space is created automatically by the very placement of elements in your design! It's how you use these spaces that determine not only the design's organization, but also the ease with which users comprehend what they're seeing and navigate through that space! The definition of space for our purposes refers to the intervals, areas, or measurable distances between all the objects or elements in a design!
