Using ground control points (GCP)

Using ground control points (GCP)

- [Instructor] Now let's talk ground control points. The process of including ground control points, or GCPs, into your drone workflow is crucial for greater precision on your true ortho creation. Drone to Map can create a true ortho without them, but the resulting mosaic might have fuzzy sections or tears where the image quality is lost. Using GCPs will help you secure the integrity of the mosaic in process in Drone to Map when it stitches your drone images together. So how do these things work in Drone to Map? Well, in this project I used six GCPs. I went out into the field in our project area and I secured GCP flags to the ground. And then I used a high-power GPS unit that gives me two centimeter or better live accuracy for the centers of the flags. I recorded those coordinates and they're included in the CSV spreadsheet found in the exercise folder for chapter 2, and we will use that soon. Now, I know exactly where these flags are located in the project, so let me show you one of…
