- [Instructor] Now that we know the different types of charts in Excel, what I want to talk to you about is a really important but sometimes confusing aspect of creating a chart, and that is the layout of the data on the worksheet. If you'd like to follow along, you can open up the Chart Basics file in your Exercise folder, and we're going to start on this first tab, laying out the data. Now, let's understand how the data layout affects this column chart. What I'm going to do is I'm going to click into the column chart here and we can see how the chart actually connects to the worksheet. We have Sales and Returns right here. These reflect our series, and then we have North, South, East, West over here. This reflects our categories. In the middle, we have the data. Now, notice that the order of the data is important. What I want to point out is that the shape of this data can actually be represented in one of two ways…
