- [Instructor] We're going to wrap up our conversation about getting data with an overview of the Power BI data connection types. There are really three connection types or connection modes. The first is Import, the second is DirectQuery, and the third is Live Connection. We begin with Import because Import is where all of our expertise is at this point. Every time we've chosen to get data so far and made a connection to a file, an Excel workbook, a database, we have been using Import. When we Import, the data that we load is imported into the Power BI cache. Then, when we create visualizations and reports, which we're going to do next, after we deal with our data, those visualizations are created using the cache data with Power BI. And when the data and the data source, for example, an Excel workbook or the Dataverse get updated, the way the report and its visualizations get updated is that we have to refresh the report data to change the visualizations.
