- I thought I'd say a bit about difficult personalities now. Where do you start? With all bad behavior, there's a general principle, which is to politely point it out with a starting statement to acknowledge their contribution, and then either ask them to behave differently or bring in someone else to contribute so that we move on from the problem. So with interrupters, you could say, "Hang on a minute, Ian, can Sally just finish her point? "I want to hear it all." And with people who talk too much, you can say, just as they draw a breath, "Okay, Terry, I know you've got more to say on this, "but I just want to bring Miles in here. "Miles, what do you think about this?" The same thing with negative people. You could say something like, "That's a good point, Nigel. "There are some risks there, "but what about the positives? "Can you see any benefits in doing this?" Or, "Thanks for pointing out the risks, Nigel.…
