- [Instructor] A couple of decades ago when I was just a wee little programmer, I had the privilege to spend some time working with a committee that was organized by the United Nations to create definitions in XML business entities. So that we would have a definition, for example, of what a customer was, what the specific fields were that we would want to capture for a customer. And if we could come to agreement then about what the core attributes of a customer was, what metadata we wanted to capture about customers, it would make it really easy, thought the United Nations, to be able to develop programs and share information back and forth between countries, between industries, and irrespective of the type of software platform that we were using. Spring forward 20 years later. And what we have is something very similar developed not by the United Nations, but by Microsoft.
