- [Instructor] In this section, we will discuss a few terms that we will be constantly using throughout the course so that we are on the same page. Let's start with a few simple and obvious ones. Some common terminologies that we use throughout the pentesting environment, include vulnerability assessments, wherein we enumerate all vulnerabilities that we can find against a specific technology, process, service or a manufacturer. Next, we have penetration testing, pentesting or a pentest. Here we start by exploiting certain specific vulnerabilities with the objective of demonstrating an effective compromise or establishing a flag in the target environment. Then we have black box, gray box and white box types of assessments. Black box means that we start out our assessments or our pentest exercise with little or no information about the target.
