What is process capture?
- As mentioned before, process mining provides enhanced visibility compared to traditional process documentation. But that isn't the full story. Process mining also leads to an objective, data-backed understanding of a process, as opposed to the potentially subjective estimates of subject matter experts. In other words, instead of relying on the experiences and descriptions of a handful of personnel, one can gather a more complete picture of a process built on all the thousands or even millions of raw data points that make it up. Basically, you will learn the process by watching the whole team, not just representatives of that team. You can think of process capture as the detective work that a process-mining tool does to help you piece together how work is done in your organization. There are two approaches to process capture today, event log capture and task capture. Tools in the process-mining ecosystem tend to use either one or the other, but in some cases, it's possible to leverage both. Next, let's compare and contrast the two approaches.
