- Points can be a powerful tool in gamification, but here's the catch. They've got to be used just right. If they're not implemented effectively, instead of boosting morale, they might just do the opposite. So regardless of the point system you decide to use, participation, completion, or performance-based, the system to award points needs to line up with what you have chosen to gamify. If you are gamifying sales, remember the point system should be aligned with making cold calls or scheduling meetings with clients. Add points to the components of your desired outcome. In fact, now would be a good time to take out your worksheet and review the section on points. What type of point system are you using? How will the points you assign align with the components of your desired outcome? Do they support the actions and behaviors that lead to the ultimate outcome you want to achieve?
