- [Instructor] There are two features that are positioned between Excel and Power BI and really highlight the two main differences between these tools. These two features are built into Power BI but can be added to Excel as add-ons. The first tool is called Power Query and it focuses on discovering, combining and refining data across a wide variety of data sources. The term query means to retrieve data from a database. This tool accomplishes the task of ETL or extract transform and load, which is a critical step in business intelligence. Essentially, this tool can pull data from various data sources then format it so you're ready to conduct your analysis. ETL is a very manual process in Excel, if you don't have this add-on.
