It ensures that a person is authentic, that they are who they say they are. Authentication is a fundamental tool for controlling access. We usually authenticate someone before we grant them access to an area or before we allow them to perform certain actions. Authentication and access control go hand in hand. Authentication and access control are used in technology, but they're also used in the real world. In fact, the key is one of the simplest forms of authentication and access control.
