- [Instructor] Let's turn our focus on a special type of domain controller called read-only domain controller or RODC in short. So what is a RODC? All domain controllers have an active directory database also known as ADDS database where information gets stored. Information also gets updated on a regular basis on this database. Read-only domain controller only have a read-only version of this database, which means that the domain controller does not write or update this database. You might be wondering why would we need such an option. Usually these type of domain controllers are suitable for deploying in a branch office where there isn't enough physical security or perhaps the bandwidth is limited. Read-only domain controller can hold all the objects and attributes that are present in a normal domain controller except the user account credentials.
